How do I celebrate a friend like you enough? A friend who has more faith in me that I do in myself? A friend for every season? I haven't a clue. What I do know is that my life is so much better with you in it and I hope that you live forever. My birthday wish for you is that we figure out your 2 left feet before the 30s are done 😂😂. That you travel to beautiful places and drink A LOT of cocktails in our 40s. That you are fabulous in our 50s. That you make 60 the new 40. That 70 finds you the sexiest gogo on the block. That 80 finds your skin still as perfect as it is now. That 90 will be toasted in style and a century will have been lived in the epic, unapologetic fashion that you have perfected. *Fear of Dreaming Big* . My human called me and told me about Dr. Puleng Makhoalibe (PhD, MBA etc). She was being interviewed on radio and he knew I would miss it. We listen to different radio stations 🙈. She blew my mind as she talked about her unconventional long and winding road to her current success. Her story was full of striking aha & wow moments that no single Instagram post can capture. Things like how it took her 7 years or so to get her PHD because she chose to only study from 2am to 6am daily so that she could work during the day and spend quality time with her young children in the evenings & mornings. * She did say something I thought was very simple at the time. When asked what advice she would give she said write down what you want your life to be by the time you turn 40 (assuming you are in your early thirties). Describe every aspect of your life and how you see it then. That's my jam, I thought. So why is the page still blank months later. Why does the thought of committing to a dream defeat me again & again despite my genuine effort. * The answer is so simple.I'm confused & afraid I will fail & disappoint myself. How dare I dream so big when I never saw anyone in my own family do it. When I am a just a rural girl. When the last few months have thrown me so far off balance. When there are so many reasons why I could & even should fail. When research tells me that one of the main reasons women are not making it to the top is not a lack of ability but because they "tap out." How can I write down a big dream when I feel myself teetering on the edge of "tapping out." After all, it's not a bad thing to just be comfortable. It is satisfying in so many ways. But there is a fire in me that wants a different road so I'm conflicted. I am standing not just at a fork in the road...its a whole set of forks. How can I know where I will wind up if I don't know which path I want to choose. * I have only now realised that I have been going about it the wrong way. Putting the cart before the horse. A tree grows from the roots upwards. So first I must work out (again🙄) who I am before I can commit to who or what I will be. Also...new pants🥰

*self-esteem and self awareness* He has never seen my nails manicured and he is not sure what to make of it so he keeps pulling my hands to look closely at them. . I know what to make of it though. Seeing my hands not looking like they belong to a farm hand really makes me feel good about myself. I didnt make a decision to stop doing my nails. I just could never carve out time for it and it didnt seem important. Self-esteem is a tricky little thing. It is made and broken a little at a time by the little acts of love and appreciation we show towards ourselves every so often. The same ones that we are so quick to sacrifice unintentionally when life does its thing. . Then seemingly suddenly we find the voice inside our heads has become the unkindest of all and we seek and rely on external validation in the form of approval from others. When it is denied to us, we are unduly devastated. . So be mindful to notice yourself. To say the kind of things an honest, supportive, kind and loving friend would say to yourself. To do little things for yourself here and there to love yourself. You deserve the same love you freely give to others. Plus, Kat Williams was right when he said don't walk around saying how someone took away your self-esteem. It's esteem of the self. Look after it. I suck at all of the above but I am certainly going to try harder to do better going forward. . #HappySunday #foodforthought #selfawareness #wellbeing
*baby clinics, shots and changing times* * Today I took Nate for his shots and had a chuckle at how much I have changed. I remember the first shots at #6weeksold. Not only did the whole family go (mum, dad and granny) but I think we low-key dressed nicely for it too😂. I packed a full diaper bag with multiple changes of clothes and 3 different types of blankets and enough diapers for 4 kids. Did I mention, the hospital is 6 minutes from my house and it was the height of summer 🙈. There was much intense research and debate about temps and calpol/panado before or after. I barely slept watching for adverse effects 🙈 and checking his temperature. It was A LOT😂. Bapu rega rega. #newmumjitters * Today I flew in from work, grabbed the boy in one hand, his vaccination card and my wallet in the other and we were gone. No baby bag. No toy. Nothing. We were back home in 20 minutes without a hitch. He even managed to get his paws into the bum cream like any other day. We are getting the hang of it at last 😄. Although new mum me thought she had it too so who the hell knows 😂 * #adjustment #vaccinations #toddlermum #parentinghumour #lifechanges
The #ToddlerStage is definitely my favourite so far. So much personality, boundary-pushing, new-word or new-action moments, surprise affection, cheekiness, babbling, growing and giggling. Not to mention the added bonus that quality time with him is always a workout. Despite the inevitable tantrums and the fact that all my loose decorative items have suffered an untimely demise, I find that I'm really enjoying this part. . #toddlerlife #toddlermom #parentingjourney
