Tis’ the Season for Reflection and Gratitude

"Learn to be thankful for what you already have while you pursue all that you want." ~ Jim Rohn The holiday season is upon us and as the businesses around us prepare to take a break for this annual period of rest, it makes sense that the weekly women@work feature takes a little Christmas break…

About Me

When you find yourself pregnant with no idea how to go about being a freshly minted mum, being a career woman, being an fitness bunny, being a wife and being you all at once, what do you do? Start a blog...obviously ;-)
#random. I looooove roasted corn (chibage chakagochwa or mahindi Choma I think). I absolutely love it. My rural roots shamelessly show themselves whenever corn is involved 😁. . 6 years ago, on my way to visit my new boyfriend (now husband) I missed my turn (naturally) and I drove past an informal settlement. I spotted a lady selling corn near the intersection. The next weekend, I came back to look for her and there she was. And the next weekend and the one after that. She doesn't speak English and I don't understand her language so we use a mix of hand signals and words to communicate. . And so time quietly slipped by. I remained loyal to her. When I came by and her corn wasn't ready, I didn't buy or I would wait even if there were other vendors. . When a ring appeared on my finger she gave me an enthusiastic high five and a toothy smile. When I started going to school in Pretoria, I would detour to pass by her on my way so I could have something to snack on on my late night trip home. When my pregnancy started to show, she didn't say a word but she started giving me extra corn and steadily refused any extra money. . When I returned postpartum I could see that she really wanted to talk about the baby but the language barrier wouldn't let us be great. I explained that it all went well and that it was a boy in English. She looked at me blankly. *sigh* I was sad. Imagine my surprise yesterday when after I had a hard day, I went by to treat myself to some mid-week corn and she laboured out in English "how is boy boy". I quickly took out my phone and she ooed and aaahed at videos and photos of the boy. She called the other corn ladies to see and many many hard high fives and lots of laughter later, I went on my way. My cup miraculously refilled. . I hadn't understood much of what was said and vice versa but now I know first hand that some feelings don't need words to be understood. Sometimes they just need to be felt. Somehow a lady who runs a business selling roadside corn has remained a permanent feature in my life for almost 7 years and that makes me happy. .
Isnt it a wonderful thing that eyebrows *eventually* grow back after the slip of a razor? Today I am feeling grateful for the second chances we get after life's little mistakes🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾 . #eyebrows #SusantheWig
Trying to record a Valentine's Day message for granny because love 😍. #valentinesday2019
Once upon a Sunday, a father and his son... . PS - this boy can't put a spoon in his mouth but he can open my bag, open my makeup bag and dismantle my #Rubywoo into 3 separate pieces. I found him licking the naked red lipstick like a lollipop 🙈 #lifewithatoddler #Iputitbacktogether #ittakestwo #Sunday #familyday #fatherandson
Getting a 10km Valentine's night run for Valentine's day is pretty unusual right? I thought so too. Thankfully our weirdness is compatible 😃. Except the part where he managed to put down a whole meal within 30min of the race😲. I still felt like my stomach was sitting in my chest 2 hours after the race🤷🏾‍♀️😃. Also, it's lucky we took the photo before the race😂. That's all I'm saying . #hemakesmebetter #valentinesnightrace #valentinesnightrun #running #werun #valentinesday2019 #blogger
I never get tired of living our love story because "all love stories are beautiful but ours is my favourite." Happy Valentine's Day babe. . #love #weddingday #vintagecar #jaguar #naturalhair #blogger #africanblogger
The joy this boy gets from the simplest things inspires me to appreciate all the little things so much more. It's going wild for a game of peek-a-boo. it's a plate of food he only truly enjoys when he eats half and wears the remainder. It's his delight in appropriating his cousin's bright pink feeding spoon. It's the way he jumps, speed crawls and bounces up and down for a hug when either one of us gets home from work. It's how he starts dancing energetically and offbeat whenever a cartoon song plays. Forget dance like noone is watching. Dance like a toddler. . #weaning #toddlermom #toddlerlife #workingmom #thejourney #familylife #blogger #parentingblogger #careerblogger #wellnessblogger
'We are here to experience stories — to live them, to share them, to transcend them. Holding your story captive, whether by not sharing it or by not letting it evolve, robs the planet of what your heart is here to reveal.' It denies you and others the realisation that the human experience is a shared experience. That, despite all of it, we are not alone. You are not alone. . #storyteller #blogger #africanblogger #wellnessblogger #baby101 #babyblog #parentingblog #careerblog #lovers #babyboy #chicmom #momootd #momstyle #mamaswithstyle #mamastyle #mamasofinstagram #momsofinstagram #twa #momswhoblog

Meet Susan. She's my wig. The one I forgot to put on yesterday. She tends to make an appearance when getting to the barbershop is just too much work🤷🏾‍♀️ . After multiple temperature spikes we finally established that the little man has an infection. Treatment is now underway *whew.* If the doctor is to be believed, this is merely the first of many. The inevitable result of going to school. Fun times ahead. . Meanwhile, after a little January hiatus, the blog is now back in business with a new women@work post (thenovicemummy.com) . #wiggingit #schoolwoes #blogger #africanblogger #careerblog #wellnessblog #parentingblog
You know things are tight when you fly out of the house to get fever-busting suppositories and only realise when you safely have the medicine that you left the house with a wig cap on but you forgot the wig and a full face-beat that is only let down by less than respectable remnants of red lipstick 🙈. *Sigh* . #oops #funnyfails #farfromnormal #modernfamily #africanfamily #breastfeeding #newmum #sickbaby #breastfeedingmum  #blogger #africanblogger #wellnessblogger #parentinghumour #baby101 #babyblog #parentingblog #careerblog #lovers #babyboy #momstyle #mamaswithstyle #mamastyle #mamasofinstagram #momsofinstagram #twa #momswhoblog #parentinghumour
