“Why do otherwise sane, competent, strong men, men who can wrestle bears or raid corporations, shrink away in horror at the thought of … changing a diaper?” ~ Frank Pittman
We interrupt regular programming to inform you of one of the things I was ill-prepared for on this journey and to answer Frank Pittman’s question.
It’s because baby poop post-solids stinks. Lord have mercy! It stinks!
I was warned by some experienced parents that the poop that comes after you introduce solid food to the baby stinks but I didn’t get it. All of a sudden my cute bundle of joy produces farts that can clear a room and an alarming amount of poop with a peanut butter consistency that has a stench so strong that it literally brings tears to my eyes and slows down my heart-rate.
My husband has been right beside me changing diapers and parenting from Day 1. He changed this particular brand of poop diaper for the first time this past weekend and I am certain he is traumatised. He had more than a few questions about the health of Baba’s tummy 😉
This is every reason why so many black parents will call you in from outside to take the plate they just finished eating from to the kitchen and then walk right behind to wash their hands (if they don’t tell you to bring water for them to wash their hands that is) 😀
